Lost in Austen
Tuesday, September 9th, 2008 | Book, TV
Thanks to a YouTube user I’ve been able to watch part 1 of Lost in Austen. I really liked it, the idea is certainly fabulous and it’s not to be taken too seriously. Can’t wait for the remaining 3 episodes.
Over the weekend I’ve been in bed with a fever and a terrible headache. Well, after the headache kind of went away I started reading. Shirley by Charlotte Brontë it was, and I’m glad I have finally read a book from her other than Jane Eyre. It’s a different kind of story but I enjoyed it very much. And was kind of sad when I finished it. I really like the description and development of Caroline Helstone and Robert Moore. I whish they’d make a movie out of this rather than chewing out remakes of more familiar novels (such as those by Jane Austen) however much I love those.

The one annoying thing about Austen/Bronte remakes is that you will always pick one version to be your favorite and they keep making new ones!! For instance, Jane Eyre for me is still the Samantha Morton version ![]()
Villette by Charlotte Bronte is my favourite of the Brontes (and my how I love them all). The story is so different and doesn’t feature a Byronic hero like their more famous works, but Lucy Snowe is one of the most interesting protagonists that I’ve had the pleasure of reading about.
I just thought I’d recommend it as I love it so much (even though you don’t know me xD). And don’t get me started on those adaptions, you’d think that Charlotte only wrote Jane Eyre in her lifetime. I think Villette would make a lovely artistic film, I always imagine it similar to Miss Austen Regrets in terms of direction.
What mumbling.
The book I have also contains Villette and The Professor. So these are definitely on my reading list! Thanks to your comment I’m now very eager to start reading Villette.
Oh, Miss Austen Regrets - I loved that film.
Wuthering Heights is also in that book I own. Not sure if I should reat it though. I’ve never liked any of the adaptations, not even the storyline really to be honest.
Do you know Agnes Grey by Anne Brontë? I really really loved reading that! At first I thought it was bordering on being boring but then it really caught me off-guard about half-way through.
I watched the second part of Lost in Austen last night. Its different and funny in some parts but I just don’t understand why every single male character has to fall in love with Amanda Price. Bingley was besotted, Collins and Wickham were certainly interested and from the previews of next week it looks like even Darcy starts to fall for her. I want Elizabeth back haha
Apart from that, it is great, it made me read the book again so thats good. Can’t wait to see how she gets back to the 21st Century.
