Pride & Prejudice

It’s been a week since the Academy Awards were announced and I still don’t know how I really feel about Keira Knightley’s nomination for Best Actress in Pride & Prejudice. Sure, this movie is on the very top of my list of favourite movies. And this is to a large part also due to Keira’s excellent performance - her absolute best ever. There’s just something I can’t specifically name that seems to be bothering me about it…. Well, I’ve always been complaining that best actor/actress awards are a lot of the time awards for the characters - more so than for just the acting. Especially on the female side… (Hally Berry in Monster’s Ball, Charlize Theron in Monster, Natalie Portman in Closer) However excellent their performances are, don’t you agree that the respective jurors must have had something else in mind too?! Back to P&P, so I’m really glad that an ‘innocent’ movie gets noticed by the Oscars - and even for a Best Actress nod. I hope P&P has a chance of winning in the other categories as well (Costumes, Music, Art Direction). I finally bought the Soundtrack on Thursday and have been listening to this remarkable score ever since!

I also bought the Soundtrack of Show Boat for my friend - it was a real surprise for her and she was very happy about it.

Ghost Town

2 days ago I was walking through the centre of the city, along a main road. But due to a leak in the waterpipe the road is currently blocked. So there I was, listening to the rather melancholic song ‘Everything Around Me Is Changing’ by Sinead Lohan (from the Anywhere but Here Soundtrack, which is amazing by the way), the sun just barely managing to get some rays through the fog, the cars all being diverted to another road a couple of hundred meters further ahead and I’m thinking: This feels like a Ghost Town. Then what happens? A hearse just passes by…..
