Oscar Nominations

Wednesday, January 24th, 2007

Ok, same here as with the Golden Globes. I haven’t seen most of the movies in question. But am I happy that Kate Winslet garnered her 5th nomination!!!

Also Ryan Gosling’s best actor nomination made me happy (though he’s probably unlikely to win)! I’ve always liked him in the few movies that I saw him. Half Nelson also sounds like a good film worth watching.

‘Vitus’ (Swiss film) was short-listed in the foreign film category. Unfortunately (but probably predictably), it didn’t score a nomination. However, it did well to even get on the short-list. This is a film I TRULY loved.

Berlinale

Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007

I’m so excited about the 57th Berlin Film Festival. 2 of my most favourite leading ladies will be attending: Marion Cotillard (her film ‘La Môme’ even opens the festival) and Sophia Myles. She will be seen in acclaimed Scottish independent filmmaker David Mackenzie’s latest film ‘Hallam Foe’.

Oh, and always-loved Romola Garai will hopefully also attend the world premiere of ‘Angel’.

Golden Globes

Monday, January 15th, 2007

Ok, the first glamourous awards event is over, the Golden Globes. As always I haven’t seen most of the movies and can’t have very objective opinions about who should win. I’m not overly excited about the winners, nothing special.

I would have liked Kate Winslet or Toni Colette to win something. Sacha Cohen should definitely not have won or even been nominated and I’m 100% happy that Hugh Laurie won!
