Tri orísky pro Popelku

Apparently that’s the original title of my favourite winter movie - also known as Three Wishes for Cinderella. This is just an unbelievably gorgeous film. Every single time I watch it I fall head over heels in love with it again! Of course I have a German dubbed version and I think it works nevertheless. I remember it took me a while before I figured out it wasn’t original audio. Found it in Czech yesterday and downloaded it. Usually, I’m always all for original audio no matter what the language (given that it has subtitles) but in this case, I don’t know. Maybe I’ve just seen it one time too many in German but I found the Czech language seriously distracting. It was still nice though and I got used to it. But then, there it was, the first scene of Cinderella galopping across the scenery, I was already looking forward to hearing that lovely dreamy music, but then, oh my! in the original there are lyrics! In Czech! Not nearly as nice as the music I’m used to. Even bought the soundtrack a few years back. I think I’ll burn the Czech version on a CD just in case I like to watch it again sometimes but my feeling is I’ll be sticking to the German version!
Haven’t done as much for my sites as I had planned to but that’s ok. At least the group podcast for the Sophia site went over well. It was quite the experience! In the end I edited the whole thing to 38 minutes (it was 72 to begin with), we had lots of technical difficulties lol
I washed my car yesterday. I felt so proud - one of those things I rarely muster up motivation to do - until I realized that the temperature was below 0° C which caused the whole car to be covered in ice. So I had to scratch the windows before I could drive back home again.
People have been wanting to invite me or include me in their excursions today. But I only felt like going back home and continue watching movie after movie. So I had some lame excuses and a narrow escape. And anyway, I’m the one who’ll have to go to work tomorrow and face my crazy boss and do all the last minute work.
p.s. The 1973 Czech Cinderella movie counts as period drama, right? Not that there’s any indication as to when it’s set but it’s definitely not in the present time. I will be able to make caps for Fragment of Light ![]()
All things come to an end…

Little Dorrit: Absolutely loved the finale! Matthew Macfadyen as Arthur Clennam waking from his illness and turning his head to follow Amy with his eyes - while still lying in bed: priceless. Also I loved that ample screentime was given to the declaration of love between the two - unlike in Wives and Daughters - also penned by Andrew Davies - where the rain scene is gorgeous indeed, but we don’t even get a kiss… and this after almost 5 hours of unrequited love. Anyhow, back to LD, the final episode more than made up for the somewhat slow last few episodes. Can’t wait for the DVD!! I’m definitely buying it! Only problem: whatever happened to the Meagles daughter? And Freema’s character Tattycoram’s sudden change of heart was sudden indeed but not delved into more… But I can live with that.
True Blood: I’m happy for the critical praise it’s getting - esp. for Anna Paquin. She just received her 3rd Golden Globe nomination! However, I can’t exactly see what’s supposed to be so much better about this show than Moonlight. Granted, the latter was cheesey, but so was TB in its own way. I have to say, I can’t stand it when shows with lots of violence and sex are deemed more “valuable” from the beginning and people/critics are so willing to shower it with praise no matter what - while cheesey shows are prejudiced against…
The Devil’s Whore: Now that was a good looking period romp! Some developments in the story as well as in the characters were rather sudden and numerous - but I thoroughly enjoyed the mini series. Andrea Riseborough - and John Simm - as well as the beautiful cinematography being the main reasons.
Spooks: I stopped watching after Season 4 - but now I’ve heard that Richard Armitage is on board since Season 7 I’m determined to catch up. Yesterday I watched the first 4 episodes of Season 5 and I have to say this show is just gripping and dramatic - I’m once again under its spell. Granted, it’s over the top and probably far-fetched but it’s a TV series so I don’t mind at all.
I re-watched the 2 The Cutting Edge movies. The first one from 1992 about 3 times in a row. I just LOVE that movie! The second one is nothing special but I love watching the skating scenes. For the same reason I plan on watching the third.
I wish

It’s the kind of phase in my life right again where I’m often thinking/saying “I wish…” instead of focusing on the now and dealing with it. Although, have to say life’s kept me pretty busy these days. Can’t even begin to think of what I need to do on my sites. Not even my beloved Sophia site is up to date. But I intend to start catching up on that and email correspondance soon.
Been away for the weekend but it was no good since I was sick the whole time and would have been faaaar better off home. This week I received something like what would have been called a social call in the old days and we’re getting new windows today/tomorrow. Good thing: our apartment is perfectly clean and more or less tidied up! Also it’ll be nice to have modern windows instead of the very old ones (as in double windows). Will have friends coming over tomorrow and hopefully they’ll stay the night, it’d be so much fun!
Watched all of the episodes of the US version of “Life on Mars” that have aired so far. Can’t believe we have to wait till January something for new episodes! I really loved it though, even though I still can’t understand why they had to re-make it for the US I think it’s a successful transition. It’s as addictive as the UK one and I’m curious to find out if it’s true that the US will have a different mythology.
Also watched the 1999 version of “David Copperfield” - of which I found a relatively cheap DVD - and loved it quite a lot. Can’t believe how many actors I start to recognize from seeing them in different literary adaptations. Alun Armstrong seems to be in everything but he’s really talented. Also love Pauline Quirke. I think in the end these are the actors that are the happiest in their profession. They seem to get work regularly - so they’re not struggling actors - but don’t get the whole package of promotion, papparazzi etc. They can really spend their time doing what they love which is acting. Reminds me of a conversation I recently had with someone in the business about how the reality of Hollywood, LA and everything just turned out to be so different from what she imagined and how doing BBC/ITV projects might after all be preferrable to trying to land leading roles in Hollywood productions - which means spending months being unemployed in isolated LA… From where I stand I’d say this is a wise decision!
Started reading “Little Dorrit” in English. After I got past the first few pages it started to be a really gripping read despite the dated feeling of the writing. Which reminds me, have to find downloads for “Little Dorrit” and “The Devil’s Whore” again. I wonder why they’re relatively hard to find compared to e.g. “Lost In Austen” or “Tess” back when they aired.
